5th Grade Country Reports

Hello 5th Grade! It is a pleasure to be able to help you with your Spanish country reports! This year you will not be writing a paper. Instead, you will be creating a poster for your country containing all of the information you have found. But this will not be a paper poster. It will be a digital poster called a GLOG and it is made online with a program called Glogster EDU.

Doing your research

You will research the country you selected using you research checklist as a guide. You may use one of these research databases: Scholastic’s New Book of Knowledge or Explora for grades K-5.

If you missed class or forget how to use Scholastic’s New Book of Knowledge, click here for help.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you are using Explora from home, you will need to use our schools username and password to enter the database. Both the username and password are: sjrlc245

To use Scholastic’s New Book of Knowledge from home, the username and password are: tkcs

PLEASE DO NOT GOOGLE YOUR RESEARCH!

If you want to narrow your Explora result list by reading level, open the Reading Level Limiter in the left sidebar and select articles between 401 and 1100. See image below.

What you need to know about Glogster

I will create a school account for each of you to use through a special educational account we have purchased. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT OPEN YOUR OWN GLOGSTER ACCOUNT!

Once you have completed your research, you will be able to access your Glogster account from this landing page. Just click on your nickname to visit Glogster. Then click Log In and copy and paste your nickname and the password I will give you into the boxes provided.

I will show you how to create an online poster after you have completed your research, but so that you have an idea of what you can do with a Glog, here are a few samples:
Sample 1: Haiti
Sample 2: Somalia
Sample 3: Brazil

Step-by-Step instructions to create a Glog

Here’s some free-to-use music you can upload to your glog — copy and paste the URL (the address) of the song you choose into the Link box in the Audio tool of Glogster.

Once you complete your Glogs, you can access them from this landing page. Just click on the name of the Glog you would like to visit and have fun!
